Unfortunately, Donald Trump has won the United States presidential election. Trump’s victory, on one hand, reflects the foolishness of humanity, but also serves as evidence that democracy, as it currently stands, cannot function without an educated populace.
Looking at the results, one can’t help but think that humans are, at times, unbelievably stupid. Nowadays, and sadly all too often, despite the world supposedly being more advanced. Donald Trump is elected as the president of the USA, and this is not even a parody. Once again, the world is led by an idiot.
The USA will now be led by someone who probably has never uttered a single truth. A person who lies to gain money and power. A person who thinks only of himself. A person who offers simplistic and erroneous explanations to complex issues. A criminal whose goal is to erode democracy to save his own skin.
People had been warned, and facts had been presented to them. Trump’s claims have been corrected; his harmfulness has been highlighted. Yet, with content-free mantras like “Fake news” and “Woke,” more than half of the U.S. has voted for a pathological liar. Meanwhile, some of Trump’s voters mistakenly believe they are thinking for themselves, even though every thought has been fed to them straight from a propaganda mill, bypassing any filter, directly into their minds.
The situation in the USA is sad, but the same can be said for many other countries. Facts, empathy, or common sense don’t seem to work, and people cheer as they willingly give up democracy. They cheer until the moment the mess hits the fan. If people were socially educated, they would know that this has ended badly before.
It would be nice if there were some safe haven for the rest of us from such people and their disdainful voting behavior toward enlightenment. But there isn’t. Now everyone (non-wealthy) will suffer from these childish games of the so-called adults. Human rights take a step back, and Putin rejoices, as he always does when the far right wins.
The Current Model of Democracy is Broken as Shown by Donald Trump’s Election Victory
Unfortunately, humanity seems to be beyond saving. It is deeply frustrating. Democracy has proven too difficult for people. For democracy to work, people need to be capable of making informed voting decisions. They need to understand lies and their consequences. Deliberative democracy could save us. It would only require wiser people and a complete reform of campaigning and election systems. As of now, that won’t happen, as stupid people are far more useful than enlightened people for the right-wing politicians.
Unfortunately, it’s now clear that within my lifetime, the world will not become reasonable or just. War and tragedy will continue.
